They believe that wolf medicine is in the East and the yellow eyes of the wolf rise every day with the yellow sun to teach us all day long. Their social and survival skills surpass us completely when it comes to taking care of each other as a whole. It is part of my philosophy to see through troubled times, knowing there is an invisible, mysterious force that only knows good; fueled by good intentions it is quite powerful and we are powerful allies to this force.

Since the news for wolves in the Rocky Mountain States is very troubling and critical, I am going to know that they, our teachers, have a higher lesson to teach us right now than their survival in that region. If so, wolves could be the answer, not only for a healthier ecosystem, but could commence the eradication of the corruption happening in our government. I know that sounds very dramatic, but here is what is happening…

Wolves in 5 states (Idaho, Montana, Utah, Oregon, & Washington) have been removed from the Endangered Species List. Much has happened against and for the benefit of wolves in the wild; albeit legally complicated, I will do my best to explain what we have learned. It has been both enlightening and excruciating.

Last Spring, Senator Jon Tester, a Democrat from Montana wrote and attached a rider that was buried in a 459 page Congressional budget bill that he knew would pass both houses and President Obama signed into law on April 25, 2011. Although the rider did not mention the words “grey wolves” or the Endangered Species Act, he successfully accomplished his mission to take wolves in the Rocky Mountains off of the endangered species list. We believe that Congress thought it was just agreeing to reissue a 2009 delisting rule (not knowing what it was) even though a District Court ruling had already over turned the delisting rule and returned the wolves to the Endangered Species List in July of 2010.

The language of the rider did use phrasing that “prohibits all judicial review” and what District Court Judge Donald Malloy in Missoula Montana called “magic words” that prohibited him from declaring the rider unconstitutional even though he called it “a tearing away, an undermining and a disrespect for the fundamental idea of the rule of law.” It is now in the hands of the 9th District Court due to a precedent set by them in two previous cases. However there are fundamental differences which call in question the Separation of Powers Doctrine. On Tuesday, November 8th, Shadowland Foundation supporters held a support rally outside the court and attended the hearing and heard arguments. We are anxiously awaiting their ruling.

Statements made to the press by Senator Jon Tester make it clear that he designed the rider to circumvent the District Court’s decision without amending the ESA, which is unconstitutional. He is that blatant about it. This is a U.S. Senator! Similar statements have been made by Republican Representative Mike Simpson from Idaho who has also attempted similar legislation. This is an outrage, not just because of the wolves, but as Americans, we are personally incensed at this corruption and abuse of our legislative process and know that the abuses are much broader than just saving this precious species.

How is it possible for approximately 1,650 wolves over a 5 state area to amass such devastation as to prompt an act of Congress to obliterate them? Just to give some perspective…there are approximately 5,000 coyote’s in Los Angeles County alone, 750,000 in the state of California. Hunting in these states represents about 5% of the population, Ranchers and Oil interests about 1%. These are million dollar industries along with Fish & Wildlife agencies, in place to safeguard wildlife, but their salaries are paid by seasonal hunting licenses. They are using the rhetoric, “States Rights” as their rallying call, even though wolves are living on Federal Land, which is the real issue; who gets to use it and thrive on it. Not an endangered species! Would it surprise you to know that Ecotourism brought in over a Billion dollars in 2010 just to Yellowstone National Park alone? This business serves 93% of the people and seems of no interest to these politicians.

As a result of the passing of this deliberate unconstitutional piece of legislation, wolves are now being hunted in Idaho and Montana and have been since late August, 2011. Over 37,000 permits have been sold to kill 1,000 wolves…two thirds of the entire population. The count to date of wolves killed is 201. Hunting season in Idaho ends March 31, 2012, when pregnant females and pups will be available for killing also. They call this a “Harvest”.

Interior Secretary Ken Salazar claimed the wolves were recovered and created the 2009 delisting rule saying they could sustain such hunts. In a television interview recently, when asked why we would spend hundreds of millions of dollars to recover the wolves only to annihilate them again, he made no comment.

He wasted no time in giving the 5 states rights to “manage” wolves themselves and although Wyoming was not listed as one of the states in the rider, Mr. Salazar delisted them there as well on his own. As I write this, Wyoming legislators are drafting legislation to allow wolves to be shot on site over 90% of the state and also includes very contagious language “prohibiting all judicial review” in their proposal. U.S. Representative Cynthia Lummis, a Republican from Wyoming successfully inserted a no-litigation rider into a 2012 congressional appropriations bill, as well as a clause that would immediately put Wyoming wolves under state control similar to the one just passed in April. Never before has any elected or appointed official dared to take an endangered species off the endangered species list, violating its very essence with a complete disregard for its provisions and specifications.

Because these are wolves we are talking about…there have been no consequences for their actions. Tyranny is a word I learned from the writings of J. Madison lately, and it is alive and well and living in Washington DC; crossing both party lines, unchecked and most likely happening on an even bigger level on other vital issues leaving Americans without freedoms which our government is set up to protect. We do not know yet what the 9th District Court will decide, but we know that we are doing everything in our power to expose and speak up about these abuses for wolves and as proud Americans. We ask for your continued support and applaud your participation to help stop injustices of all kinds in all areas of our lives. I still believe in WE THE PEOPLE, and I still believe in ALL THE PEOPLE.

There were hundreds of riders attached to the “must pass” bill in April and even more to come in 2012. The appeal filed by 4 conservation groups to the 9 District Court where we rallied, was not about wolves, although it directly affects them; it was about corrupt, unconstitutional legislation. This is an opportunity for these judges to “Man Up” as my husband Paul Pondella puts it. These judges have lifetime appointments, but they were appointed and approved by the very legislators they would have to rule against. It is a time for courage.

The first appeal in 2010 that put the wolves back on the endangered species list was brought by 14 conservation groups. Ten of the biggest and most lucrative bowed out of the process after the April delisting in fear of losing protections for other species. The very politicians that are behind these betrayals are the ones they are now wooing for future favors. Isn’t that like inviting a snake into your bed thinking it won’t bite you?

Our neighbor and good friend, Bob McKinley had some wise words. He said, “You have to continue to fight the good fight; for wins are never permanent but neither are losses.” We are fighting with our gentle pack of eight. This is the best we can do at this time. As for the wolves in the Rocky Mountains, their current sacrifice may teach us how to stand up to Tyranny with courage and faith, for our freedoms, before it is too late.

Colette Duvall Pondella
Co-Founder of Shadowland Foundation
Lake Hughes, CA

SAVE THE WOLVES FROM GUNS WITH BINOCULARS AND CAMERAS

As you may know, we recently lost our beloved black wolf Shadow, who inspired and fueled our passion to save wolves. We are determined to be as committed and resilient as she was in our mission.

This past May, in an unprecedented act, Congress removed Northern Rocky gray wolves from the Endangered Species List, stripping them of their federal protections. Currently, legal action is being taken by leading environmental organizations to prove that act to be unconstitutional and an abuse of the legislative process.

The legal process is extremely time consuming, and their success will come much too late for the wolves in Wyoming or Idaho and Montana, where wolf hunting season begins in August! Two thirds of the wolves are designated targets and Idaho is preparing to enact state laws that would guarantee them the right to enact similar laws as Wyoming where just last week, wolves were delisted and Secretary of State Ken Salazar and newly appointed head of Fish & Wildlife, Dan Ashe approved the state's current management that allows wolves to be shot on site at any time.

We believe that the only way to meet the immediate need to save these wolves is to launch a campaign demonstrating how very crucial they are not only to the environment but to the local economies; to show that they are more profitable alive than dead.

Ecotourism is a billion dollar industry for the Yellowstone National Park. In 2010, close to 4 million visitors that traveled there specifically to see wildlife, especially the wolf. Research suggests that visitors to the park stay an average of 3.2 days spending $108 per day. That equals approximately $1,382,400,000 and benefits local businesses, private citizens and local governments. Significantly more than revenue collected from hunting and fishing licenses combined. In spite of this, Congress voted to protect special interests that falsely blame the wolf for their economic losses. We want the people of Wyoming, Idaho and Montana and all visitors and friends of wildlife to speak up and let it be known that the wolf is good for business.

If you have not yet planned your summer or winter vacation, we ask that you take a trip to Yellowstone National Park, by way of Idaho or Montana and shout from the rooftops that you are there to see the wolves - armed with cameras and binoculars, instead of guns.

Because this is our first introduction of this campaign idea, your feedback would be greatly appreciated. We also urge you to participate by telling your friends and booking your trip for an exciting rescue and recovery mission...the wolves need your help!

Our Letter to Obama to Save the Wolves

Dear Friends,

We are outraged and also deeply saddened that the recently passed budget bill included the rider taking Northern Rocky gray wolves off of the Endangered Species Act, leaving their survival up to those very states that want to see them eradicated.

Please see our letter to President Obama below. If you so choose, please print it out, sign it and fax or mail it to the White House. Even better, please write a letter in your own words.

Thank you, and please continue to support Shadowland Foundation and help us protect those magnificent and loving beings, the wolves.

Gratefully yours,
The Shadowland Pack

President Barack Obama

The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW
Washington, DC 20500
Phone: (202) 456-1111
Fax: (202) 456-2461

Dear President Obama,

The rider attached to the newly signed budget bill that takes Northern Rocky gray wolves off of the Endangered Species List is an outrageous travesty. There is no practical or sane reason that anything about wolves, or any other species, should have been included in a bill dealing with the budget. Especially a provision that completely jeopardizes the general welfare and survival of a fellow species, and one that as a keystone species is integral to the overall health of its environment.

When wolves were reintroduced to Yellowstone, from near extinction in the 1990s, trees, songbirds and beavers have also flourished. Turning back the clock on this magnificent and grossly misunderstood animal, in favor of already heavily subsidized ranchers, hunters and developers was immoral and unethical. What does it say to our children and yours that we sacrificed the wolves to a lobbyist and industry agenda? What does it say that we allowed them to be exterminated just when they were beginning to recover? As of now, the Northern Rocky gray wolf population is only 10% of what it once was worldwide. It is only because of recent and intense recovery efforts that the population is sustainable at all. Allowing these states to manage the populations is to give them a death sentence; not in my opinion, they have said this is what they intend. They will be hunted and slaughtered for sport.

Any arguments that wolves are a threat, and have a negative impact upon livestock, elk and business are completely false; perpetrated by those who have had decades of relatively free range to prosper on public land without having to take any responsibility to protect their own property or replenish the land they desecrate. The facts are that wolves, as a natural predator, keep elk, deer and caribou populations in check, preventing them from overgrazing the land. Livestock are much more likely to be killed by coyotes, feral dogs and disease than by any wolf. When livestock are killed by wolves, ranchers are reimbursed with money that is supposed to go towards preventative measures to keep livestock safe from wolves in the first place.

Millions of tax dollars were invested reintroducing the wolves to the Yellowstone National Park. Not only was it a success for the failing ecology, it more than paid off in the millions brought to the region by ecotourism. The economy of the states also flourished and will continue to do so by the addition of wolves to the region. Wolves actually stimulated the economy in those states without any political or partisan stimulus package. According to recent polls, 87% of the public strongly agrees that the gray wolf is a vital and part of America’s wilderness and natural heritage. Who speaks for these citizens who have benefited from the wolves’ presence, certainly not the elected representatives who attached this rider, nor anyone else who voted for it?

Despite your promises to return science to the heart of the Endangered Species Act (ESA), it is under your watch that for the first time ever, Congress has voted to remove endangered status for a species by sneaking it into this budget bill. This was blatantly a back door manipulation and abuse of our legislative process by these devious politicians. Now that it is done, what now? We desperately need some kind of protection in place to keep wildlife safe from special interests before they need the ESA just to survive mankind.

I implore you to do all in your power to ensure the safety of the Northern Rocky gray wolf, and to maintain federal protections for the Great Lakes gray wolf as well as all other endangered species. Reject lobbyists and extremist measures that place profit before preservation and protection, and politics before science on all matters of our natural world. Kindness, Conservation and Stewardship are American Values. Let’s keep it that way.

Sincerely Yours,

Paul, Colette, Gwenn, Shadow, Alaska, Takoda, Keme, Kachina, Cochise, Chenoa, Ogin and Tehya

New Budget Resolution Allows for Western Wolves to be Slaughtered

We may have a government that’s still open, we may have a budget of sorts, but will we have wolves? For, their fate and their ensured survival under the Endangered Species Act, was one of the fatalities of Friday night’s budget “compromise” - included within the Continuing Budget Resolution, was the provision to strip federal protections for wolves in the Northern Rockies, reinstating a 2009 rules that was based on bad science and was declared unlawful by a federal district court.

This marks the first time ever in the history of the Endangered Species Act (ESA) that Congress has removed protections for one specific species. In doing so, this provision not only endangers wolves, who are already endangered, but threatens all species protected under the ESA. And once again, a decision that should be based on good, sound science has been decided by politicians and their corporate friends who will profit from the state’s wolf management system’s i.e. killing sprees. Who will be the next?

Mother Nature should ‘manage’ the populations as she has done for millennia, not the hunters and ranchers and realtors, and those who are just misguidedly frightened of the “big bad wolf.”

Our fight for wolves and for our environment continues. Please send a message to Western governors to protect wolves, and please continue to support Shadowland Foundation and other organizations that safeguard our wild and natural world.

On the road again!

<!--[if gte mso 9]><xml> We wanted to drive straight through and miss the impending storms in southern California, but ran into a snow storm in Beaver, UT (birth place of Butch Cassidy). The fresh snow was just gorgeous. Paul however was concerned about the snow as it meant a difficult drive for us…but the worst seems to be over here on the road, but we are not looking forward to driving into the never ending thunderstorms hitting LA.

It has been one week today since we took Shadow in to see Dr. Tzipory to find out what was causing Shadow’s nose bleed. Before her MRI he went over all of the possible causes…ending with what he called the worst possible scenario; a fungal infection. “They are worse than cancer,” he exclaimed. Two hours later he called us to view the images. No matter how positive I had kept my thoughts and how hard I had imagined this meeting being just a minor complication, I knew when I walked into the room that it was not good news. I could feel it from Dr. Tzipory’s body language and lack of greeting. My body started a kind of collapse from deep inside me and I had to sit before he even spoke. Looking inside a brain is quite phenomenal thing in any situation, but to see infection to such an extent in her small little head was just unbearable. Paul just crossed his arms, held it together and took care of business. He leads us with such power, precision and fortitude; he constantly impresses me with his courage and commitment.

Still under anesthesia, they took her back into surgery at around noon. He said they would be able to tell what kind of infection it was when they got in there. Our concern was that the culture we had done back in LA was to take 3 weeks to find out if it is fungal or not. The research I did indicated that fungal infections were deadly if not discovered in 8 days, and it had already been over 10 days since her first symptoms. How maddning!

We whiled away the hours by grocery shopping, washing the truck, and then tried to take a nap…still no word. We stayed at the Kiva Best Western again in our little pet friendly room and Paul set up his little traveling kitchenette; he is so proud of his regression to his old Boy Scout days. About to go stir crazy, at 6PM the call came. Dr. Tzipory’s voice was an indication of the news to come; it was fungal and in her brain. He removed the bone cement and the muscle and tendons he had created for her as a protective cover over her brain. It was covered with spores and the infection had taken over the area where the cyst was removed just 5 weeks earlier. He cleaned the area and said he doused it with hydrogen peroxide believe it or not.

There are very few cases where the prognosis was good with this kind of infection. Most owners pull the plug at this point because the drugs they use are for humans and quite expensive and could cause kidney damage as a side effect. They have some data of one dog that had the infection in his lungs and lymph system; it is still alive and well. This fungus is usually present in the sinus of all dogs and humans as well and lies dormant until the immune system is compromised. Considering her cancer was all sinus related…well, there you go.

At this point, Shadow had not woken from surgery and we had to wait and see her condition when the anesthesia wore off. In the meantime, we had Dr. LaRue, Shadow’s Radiation Oncologist, on the phone discussing euthanasia. This was excruciating for all of us. When we got off of the phone, Paul wiped his eyes, stopped crying and said he just didn’t want to give up on her. Our alternative to giving her the medication is to take her home, watch her deteriorate and wait for her to tell us she cannot take it anymore. Knowing Shadow, she would never give up, she hasn’t so far.

When Dr. Tzipory called back and said she was up, breathing on her own, and headed for the door again ready to go home; so we gave him the go ahead and Paul went into, “how to pay for it” mode. They gave her the first treatment that same evening. She responded well, no adverse reactions and she is to have 3 treatments a week, for 3 weeks. We stayed for the first week of treatment. Her last treatment was Monday and they checked her kidneys and they are just fine. It is his belief that the infection is systemic so we have to get it into her blood stream so the medication is delivered through an IV with fluids at the same time to protect her kidneys.

On Christmas day, we took Shadow, Allie and Takoda to the mountains and let them run in the snow. Shadow was so excited, had a big smile on her face and her tail went up for the first time since she got to drink out of the creek before we got to CSU. It was sad to see her struggle a bit as she is so weak from the surgery. She took it easy though, and let us know she was done by crawling into Paul’s arms as if to say, “thank you, I needed that.”

I have to applaud Takoda and Allie for their devotion to Shadow. They have lived on Shadow’s very sedate schedule with little or no complaint. Takoda took to the snow and played hard like the arctic he is and Allie indulged him a little by playing with him some. Her beta self is happiest just holding down the fort and staying close, guarding and protecting the pack.

Everyone here is astounded by Shadow’s strong constitution and love of life. Yet again, she is another case study, now for this new anti-fungal for animals. Her purpose in life seems to include this contribution to the medical community. I have to tell you that it infuriates me that she has had to endure all of this medical treatment and yet I am filled with gratitude at the same time. We can only assist her in this journey, which is our honor and pleasure.

Our next assignment is to find someone to help us create a custom helmet for her so she can enjoy the puppies and the outdoors. She thrives on her connection to the earth. Our new property when we procure it will be the best medicine in the world, but without something to protect her brain; she will not be able to participate. Any resources you may be able to recommend would be greatly appreciated.

As always, with all our being, we appreciate your continued and never ending support.

Nap time for Takoda

Election Day - Vote With Your Heart

Dear Fellow Pack Members,

As you know, tomorrow is Election Day. This is a critical time for our environment and our planet as a whole. Please review our wish list below and see if any of these generous gifts are within your means. We appreciate your participation and help:

Building Supplies:

We have to build and repair a fence to enclose the property. The indoor classroom needs a new roof, kitchen and bathroom. There are platforms and training apparatus we can build to work the animals and prepare the puppies for the educational programs. We also have a design and plan to build an imitation rock climbing habitat for agility training, exercise and a natural playground for the wolves to enjoy.

Green treated lumber – 4 x 4 x 8, 10, & 12 ft posts
8 & 10 ft
2 x 4 x 8, 10, & 12 ft lengths
2 x 6 x 8, 10 & 12 ft lengths
3/8” & ½” sheets of plywood
24 volt Dewitt cordless drill
sawzal
jigsaw
1, 1 ½, & 2 inch galvanized wood screws
roofing felt paper
composition roof tiles
bathroom toilet
shower stall
kitchen cabinets
kitchen sink
kitchen stove
refrigerator
St Augustine sod
2 ea 110 volt wall ac units

Vehicles: During the fall and winter months we are blessed with the ability to run the wolves up at the training site in Acton, CA. Unfortunately, we cannot safely run them there in the spring and summer months because it becomes rattlesnake territory. We have come up with a fun and unique way to give them the exercise they require here in the heart of the city.

electric golf cart (4 seater)
adult tandem tricycle

Camera Equipment: We are developing a web series, online educational presentations and a documentary about our journey through Shadow’s cancer treatment and recovery. These items and their updated technology would give us broadcast ready footage.

Cannon VIXIA S21
tripod
zoom lens
digital projector
lighting equiptment
final cut pro editing services

Thanks for your support! And, now you can contribute and receive a tax-deductible receipt!

Southwest Wolf Reintroduction Effort Faces Long Odds

Source: Timber Wolf News

By almost all accounts, after 12 years of trial and error, the government's Mexican wolf recovery program is a failure -- both biologically and politically.

"The program is in crisis," said Eva Sargent, Southwest program director for Defenders of Wildlife, one of several of groups that have closely monitored FWS's recovery efforts. "They need to figure out what they need to do, and do it quick."

"The program isn't working," said Erik Ness, a spokesman for the New Mexico Farm and Livestock Bureau, which has fought the government over its reintroduction efforts. "They'll never make ranchers happy, because they're feeding beef to these wolves."

But Benjamin Tuggle, FWS's Southwest regional director and top overseer of the recovery program, says the agency is determined to keep at it. "I kind of bristle when I hear the word failure," he said. "I know there are a lot of people who would like to believe we're failing, but I don't take that position. We're not backing off."

Read the rest of the article HERE.

Wolves Return to Colorado

This article is from 'High Country News'.

Officially, wild wolves do not live in Colorado. The nearest established population is in Wyoming, where gray wolves were introduced to Yellowstone National Park in 1995. But rumors of wolf sightings abound in Colorado, and in recent years, at least two wolves have died in the state. In 2004, a young radio-collared female wolf from Yellowstone was killed on Interstate 70 near Idaho Springs, about 30 miles west of Denver. In the winter of 2009, another young female collared wolf traveled a 1,000-mile-long route from the Yellowstone region to the Meeker, Colo., area, roughly 20 miles from where Eisenberg and her crew work.

Like most scientists, Eisenberg and her colleagues are cautious. For months, even among themselves, they half-jokingly spoke of "visitors from the North," reluctant to name a species as controversial as the gray wolf. They emphasize that DNA testing, now under way at a lab at the University of California, Los Angeles, is needed to back up their identification of the animal or animals that produced the scat and tracks. But whatever the animal is, it appears to be eating what wild wolves eat, and traveling over the landscape the way wild wolves do.

When wolves arrive in an ecosystem, everything changes: the ecology, the politics, relationships both animal and human. "We know more about wolves, and the management of wolves, than we do about many other forms of wildlife," says Douglas Smith, leader of the Yellowstone wolf project. "But we rarely get to put it into practice, because people freak out, flat-out freak out, when a wolf shows up."

Read the rest of the article HERE.

IGive Promotion

Help us raise money to support our Wolf Educational Programs while you Search and as you Shop!

For each person who joins iGive using this special link and does just one web search on their site between now and 9AM Thursday, they'll give Shadowland Foundation Inc. a dollar.

Of course, the more you search (or buy something) the more money will be donated to Shadowland Foundation Inc. For each additional search we'll receive $.02 and a bonus $5 for your first purchase!

The special $1.00 per Search is only good until 9AM Thurs. We're up to 162 in Idaho and Montana. This doesn't even cout the hundreds in Alaska thanks to the "Rougue" herself. My spiritual practice says to see past the moment and vision what ought to be. I am happy to do that as I know that it makes a differnce in shifting the consciousness around the one that thinks it is necessary to destroy them even though science has proved the need for them. We are paying for the damage caused by their absence past and present, but I am convinced we will correct it for the future.
Please visit savewolves.org and help them produce their second ad to run in Time Square. Our next event is scheduled for December 12th and it is so exciting for the dream to unfold. We here at Shadowland Foundation, Inc. call it Playing with Wolves, a Wolf Education Program for children of All ages because the connection to the childlike wild spirit within the adults is awakened by the connection and touch of these beautiful animals. The kids get it before they arrive, the adults re-discover it. Seeing the faces of all the children in the room as they get licked and kissed by those powerful tongues is remarkable and unforgetable and sheer bliss for us to provide and only natural for Shadow, Allie and Takoda to give.
I did just receive an outreach from the http://www.nrdc.org/ to sign a letter to Ken Salazar to stop the wolf hunt in Idaho and Montana before it's too late. They make it so easy to make a difference. Please log on and sign. It takes a community to go up against special interest. Just remember, these wolves belong to you. Your tax dollars re-instated them 13 years ago and has sustained the scientific research done to understand their contrubution to the environment. All of it could be shattered in a matter of months if allowed to continue; millions of dollars wasted, ecological recovery set back, and wolf packs...gone! It breaks my heart.
Please see them as we do, living long healthy productive, protected lives with mutual respect for each other.
Until next time. Paul, Colette, Shadow, Alaska and Takoda.

A Howling Halloween is just in time so wolves don't run out of it!

Last chance for A Howling Halloween! Please come and bring your friends for this exciting day for all ages. This is an extraordinarily dangerous time for wolves in the country once again. Hunting season has been extended in Idaho and Montana to an unprecidected 7 months, since this is the first wolf hunt in decades. In just 4 days in Montana, almost 30 were shot and killed including tagged wolves that have contributed to science and study never before possible until 1996.

The Shadowland Foundation, Inc. is introducing our pack inorder to show you why the wolf is vital to our survival as human beings and their contribution to the environment. Please visit us www.shadowlandfoudation.org and Defenders of Wildlife www.savewolves.org and let them hear your voice. Just, FYI, these wolves belong to you, they have been reinstated with your tax dollars, they are on public land being hunted on behalf of private individuals for private gain.

In the meantime, hold these precious animals in your mind as safe and sound in their natual habitat and their pups happy and healthy in their dens.

Help Stop the Wolf Hunt...Yellowstone Cottonwood Pack Gone!

I am compelled to share some sad news about the status of wolves in Yellowstone National Park area and their inclusion in the September 2009 hunting season in Idaho and Montana. The Cottonwood Pack that served our scientific community and were closely viewed by park visitors were shot and killed. They made one mistake, they never killed any livestock, they just traveled outside of the park boundary, and boom.
Defenders of Wildlife, www.savewolves.org has a petition you can sign and send to be hand delivered by them to the now Obama Administration that allowed the Bush Administration policy regarding protections to be removed. Please go to this site and sign the petition? I urge you. It is likely this pack left behind some pups that may starve during the upcoming winter.
Idaho wants to rid the state of 220 wolves and Montana, 75. At least 60 have already been killed. All under the guise of loosing too many elk and deer. There is no evidence of a shortage of these animals or numbers near extinction like the wolves.
Here pictured are our three, ambassadors for their wild friends. The mission of Shadowland Foundation, Inc., www.shadowlandfoundation.org is clear, this keystone species is vital to the environment and the success of our planet.
